General hospital with maternity department
Autovía A-7 Km 187 29603 Marbella
"Extremely well equipped and all in all a good experience." (ET, Dec 2009)
"Nearly all my friends have given birth in this hospital and its a really popular choice here. The reason we chose it is that we had heard lots of positive experiences from friends of ours and we couldnt really afford to go privately. I had been quite scared reading all the horror stories of giving birth in Spain but the hospital was great and my husband stayed with me throughout. I had quite a difficult labour and they thought I might need a C-Section at the end. If that had been the case they told me my husband wouldnt be able to stay in the room. This really frightened me and I am not sure if its normal here or if that is just the case at this hospital. Luckily it never got to that and my son came screaming into the world about 1 hour later. I was allowed to listen to calming music from my Ipod throughout which really helped me. I had also read lots of birth stories on the internet which said that Spanish hospitals made you lie on your back and not move but here I walked around the whole time and even used a birthing ball. My husband cut the umbilical cord at the end and we both agreed it was all in all a good experience - well as much as
childbirth can be ;)" (KVE, Jan 2010)

Large public hospital with various units and campuses over Malaga city. The maternity ward can be found on Avda Arroyo De Los Ángeles s/n (+34) 951290000
"We actually didnt use this hospital in the end (see recommendation for HCS) but I did phone them up to ask about their services and they were very friendly and spoke English. I was impressed by the level of English as not all the hospitals do speak English to you. I have heard that they have a good reputation with professional staff and I do know of someone who gave birth there and was generally satisfied by the whole experience." (KVE, Feb 2010)

CARE, Hospital Infanta Luisa de Sevilla
C San Jacinto, 87
"I think the fact that we drove to Sevilla for our check ups is proof enough of how highly we recommend this clinic. We had a very difficult time conceiving, mainly due to our age and therefore once we were successful with our treatment we just didnt have the trust in anyone else. I can highly recommend the team here" (AH, Jan 2010)

These Aqua Natal classes combine gentle exercise and relaxation to music and are a great way to get to know other ‘mums-to-be’ and share in the excitement of being pregnant. Groups are small to allow plenty of individual attention and each session is specifically tailored to take account of your level of fitness and stage of pregnancy. Most Aqua Natal mums come back to join our baby swim classes when their little ones are born, often with the same friends they made in our Aqua Natal classes. The courses run for 5 weeks, with one 45 minute session per week. Check the website for classes in Benahavis, Marbella, Estepona and Gibraltar.

"We had a few appointments with Dr Berral before we went to CARE. He has an excellent reputation and used to be head of the Department of Gynaecology of the USP Hospital so he has lots of experience. If you are pregnant and worried about anything then you would be in very good hands with him and you dont need to worry about a language barrier." (AH, Jan 2010)

“I discovered reflexology and Rose when I was in the 6th month of pregnancy and it changed my life. I was very uncomfortable, emotionally low & not enjoying my pregnancy. Rose didn’t just ease the pain of my back and pelvis she also made a huge difference with my mood. I used reflexology until the end of the pregnancy and afterwards to help my body repair itself. I’m still asking her a massage when I just don’t feel right or I want to pamper myself because it’s wonderful and it always works! My baby sleeps through the whole night, he is really happy and relaxed and I’m sure these treatments affected this behavior. Rose taught me how to perform a bit of reflexology on him and it seems he appreciates it as well!” (RR May 2012)
“I practiced HypnoBirthing for the arrival of my first baby, using a combination of home study and practical sessions with Rose. My baby arrived 3 weeks early – just 2 days after I completed the course, and although I hadn’t had as much time to practice as I had expected, I had a wonderful positive birth experience thanks to the HypnoBirthing techniques Rose had shared with me and my partner.” (Dawn C, March 2013)

Based in Cadiz, Claudia trained as a midwife in Germany and offers birth preparation classes for both mother and father. Also offers pregnancy yoga classes, pregnancy massage and post-natal classes. She can also visit new mums at home.
"Claudia was the midwife for my second child, Emily, almost fourteen years ago, and then again for the birth of my third child, Florence, two and a half years ago. Over that time she has become a very close friend too. She has lived in Spain for many years and worked as a midwife in many capacities: preparing and conducting home births, working within the public Health Care System and also for private clinics. She also runs pre-natal classes, mother and baby groups as well as offering breastfeeding support. This varied background has given her a wealth of experience. She is adaptable, well informed and deals with unforeseen circumstances in a very calm and professional manner. She is a charismatic teacher and cousellor, demonstrating an in-depth medical knowledge and expertise of all aspects of her profession. At the same time she is able to remain very much in tune with the emotional needs of a woman and her partner throughout the pregnancy, labour and the tender first few months. It is the love and devotion that she shows in her work and her ability to empower and encourage which impressed me more than anything.. I trained as a doula, and I can see that Claudia often takes on this empathetic/supportive role whilst remaining to be a very proficient midwife. There are many babies and children living in the area who have had the fortune to be brought into the world with the kind caring helping hands of Claudia." JAC, Feb 2013)
"Claudia was a dream come true for me. I wanted a home birth with a midwife who spoke English and who would understand me and the culture I come from. Claudia spent a lot of time getting to know both me and my husband before the birth. She asked and answered a hundred questions. The time spent together before the birth was invaluable. During the labour, it was as though Claudia was reading my mind. I didn´t have to ask for anything, I didn´t even know that I wanted something until Claudia presented me with the option. She was strong and supportive. With her skill and expertise she guided us, whilst all the time ensuring it was an intimate family affair. She respected all of our wishes and made little Ruben´s entrance into this world a truly beautiful experience. During my postpartum stage, Claudia´s support was unfailing. At the drop of a hat she was on the end of the phone or at my door. I feel forever indebted to such a wonderful midwife." (Cristina Palmer-Romero, Feb 2013)
