Schools break up for the summer holidays relatively early in Spain and many parents choose to enrol their children in casals which usually start towards the end of June and run throughout July. Occasionally you will find a casal that also operates in September before the new school year starts. There are many different types of casal available from water sports to creative workshops. If you would like to recommend a casal in Barcelona please do get in touch.

Diverjoc casal is for infants from P3-P5 held at Fort Pienc School.
Carrer Ali Bei, 75, 08013, Barcelona
“My daughter in in P4 at Fort Pienc, and I am very happy with the school and extra curriculum activities, which are run by ‘diverjoc’, who are organising the summer camp there this year. This will be her first summer at the camp, and I have heard great things about it. They do different sports, water games (they set up a small pool outside on the patio, and play water games), dancing, art projects and other fun and games. I have registered her for 3 weeks there, as the price is reasonable, and includes lunch if you want. Its from 9h-16,30h, or you can also do a half day there too (9h-13h)” (JC, June 2014)

Story telling, songs and dances and party time. “A summer course with the aim of ensuring that the children go home every day happy and content with the feeling of having lived fun and enjoyable experiences without realizing that all they have been done in English!”
Calle Llacuna, 104, baixos 6
"Jo vaig portar la meva filla fa uns anys i estan be. Els monitors no sempre son de mothertongue english però parlen en anglés tot el dia als infants. Els casals els fan a escoles de barri, segurament ho fan també fora de poblenou." (AG, May 2014)

"My daughter Alexa just loved her dance classes! Susie is a great teacher and fantastic with kids! Shes patient and energetic making the classes fun while still honing technique. Susies passion for dance is truly contagious and the kids were completely engaged in class. Ive just signed Alexa up for this summers day camp where they get to perform The Wizard of Oz in a real theatre! Now how cool is that?" (KB, May 2014)
"Tengo una niña de 5 años. La sonrisa de Mar ilumina su carita cuando cruzamos la puerta de Slam Dancing Kinds. Pero esto no acaba aquí. Bailamos y reímos en casa. Todo a la vez. Además, las clases en inglés le permiten complementar una parte muy importante que, a nivel académico, algunas veces queda en segundo plano: el habla. Sumergirse en un idioma solo se consigue con la práctica! Escuchar y hablar en inglés cuando te diviertes....quién da más?" (Ester Lechosa)

The tennis club in Teia offer summer casals for children from P3 to 3er ESO. Children are grouped by age. There is an excursion every Friday.
"My kids have attended the last three summers a casal in the Teià Tennis Club, its a really nice summer camp with various activities (Tennis, Padel, Swimming, excursions). The place has a lot of natural shade so the kids are not exposed to the sun all day, the monitors did a really good job as well. I always felt at easy leaving my kids there, they came home tired after all the activities, but happy!" (BK, May 2014)

"My son attended a casal and he found it fantastic and won't stop speaking about it. While the casal was conducted in Castellano, it was almost entirely visual so it's great for children (age 5+) who can't speak Castellano or Catalan. The projects entail building a Lego form, connecting it to their computer, and telling that computer how to move them (a simple, visual program). He was able to do the projects (such as building Lego crocodiles that chomp, or a goalkeeper who blocks) with no problems. They use the Lego WeDo curriculum which you can find out more online." The Young Scientist Summer School offers a new type of summer school for children aged 6 to 10 years. The classes take place in English, but because the methodology is CLIL (where the Content and Language are Integrated into the Learning), this program is suitable for children with a basic level of English, right up to native/bilingual speakers. All teachers are fluent/native English speakers, but also speak Spanish. The maximum class size is 12 children. Each week, the children will work on a different hands-on project and experiment (independent from each other) with which they will consolidate the contents they learn in science during the academic year. Each Friday, parents are invited to come and see the projects their children have been working on, and to let them present and demonstrate what they have learned.
ESEI International Business School, Carrer de Montevideo, 31, Pedralbes, Barcelona.

"Lola is a dedicated teacher and teacher trainer with solid learning techniques and methodology. She was an excellent support for my 8 year old child when we moved to Spain in the middle of the school year, not only accademically, but also from a human perspective" (YA, June 2015)
"One of Lola's best qualities as a teacher and teacher trainer is that she sees the potential in her students and improves the skillls they have" (Juan Escayola)
Siempre a punto. No regatea esfuerzos. Incansable. Es difícil topar profesionalmente con alguien como Lola Garay, en la educación y en cualquier ámbito." (Pere Perello Montaner)
