"As a mother I always wanted to give the best care I could to love, guide, & protect my children but when I realised my daughter was so unwell & I couldn't help her I was very frightened & anxious. I asked at my medical clinic & was introduced to Gemma. Very quickly my daughter was assessed & it was a great relief. Even though at times I did not understand my daughter, Gemma explained the care, but also with a balance of maintaining confidentiality between her & my daughter to gain my daughters trust. At times situations seem to go around in circles, Gemma explains why & that feeling of relief & clarity & reassurance happens again. Having a daughter with an eating disorder is so painful but Gemma has supported, guided, explained & helped my daughter, me & my family. Having a family member with an eating disorder affects all the family & often the whole family needs to repair & rebuild. An eating disorder is said to be a journey, maybe on a horse and at times it feels like you are watching your daughter being dragged but if you get help to be lifted up into the saddle or into a carriage it makes a difference. It makes a huge difference. I would say it’s between injury & falling off completely & ideally enjoying the ride." (anon, May 2013)
